Howards End BBC (2016)

La BBC a annoncé une nouvelle adaptation d'Howards End en 4 épisodes.

Howards End explores the changing landscape of social and class divisions in turn of the century England through the prism of three families: the intellectual and idealistic Schlegels, the wealthy Wilcoxes from the world of business, and the working class Basts.

Kenneth Lonergan says, “I’m very proud to have been entrusted with this adaptation of Howards End for the BBC. The book belongs to millions of readers past and present; I only have the nerve to take it on at all because of the bottomless wealth and availability of its ideas, the richness of its characters and the imperishable strain of humanity running through every scene. The blissfully expansive mini-series format makes it possible to mine these materials with a freedom and fidelity that would be otherwise impossible. It’s a humbling and thrilling creative venture transporting the Schlegels, Wilcoxes and Bastsfrom the page to the screen. I hope audiences will enjoy spending time with them as much as I do.”

Oui, je viens de voir ça ... Bon, ben à première vue, je ne suis pas plus intéressée que ça par les autres projets mais je demande quand même à voir.
La série Press peut donner quelque chose d'intéressant mais j'espère qu'elle ne traitera pas trop des coulisses des tabloïds.
Je pense qu'il y aura d'autres adaptations littéraires, la chaîne lance toujours de nouvelles séries en cours d'année.

Sinon, pour en revenir à Howards End, je ne pense pas que je relirai le roman (ce n'est vraiment pas mon préféré de l'auteur) mais je reverrai l'adaptation d'Ivory pour l'occasion.

Quelle bonne surprise! J'ai hâte de me réplonger dans cette histoire!

Je plussoie, Emma Thompson et Helena Bonham Carter étaient sublimes, sans parler de Samuel West en Leonard Bast

Oui complètement ! Emma Thompson et Helena Bonham Carter forment un duo formidable.

On a du nouveau, enfin ! Hayley Atwell, Matthew McFadyen et Tracy Ullman ont décroché trois des rôles principaux. Le reste du casting sera révélé bientôt.

Manchester by the Sea filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan is writing the miniseries, which will explore the changing landscape of social and class divisions in turn-of-the-century England through the prism of three families: the intellectual and idealistic Schlegels, the wealthy Wilcoxes from the world of business, and the working-class Basts.
Atwell (Agent Carter) will play Margaret Schlegel, Macfadyen (Ripper Street) will portray Henry Wilcox, and Ullman (The Tracey Ullman Show) will play Aunt Juley Mund.
Hettie Macdonald (White Girl) is directing.
Published in 1910, Howards End was previously adapted to the big screen in 1992, with a cast including Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Helena Bonham Carter, and Emma Thompson (who won the Oscar for best actress).
The Howards End limited series will film in and around London. The hourlong episodes will air on BBC One in the U.K. and Starz in the U.S.

Hayley Atwell et MMF reprendront donc les rôles qu'Emma Thompson et Anthony Hopkins incarnaient dans le film d'Ivory.

Le casting prend forme, c'est chouette ! Pas facile de faire oublier les prestations de Emma Thompson et de Anthony Hopkins mais j'ai hâte de voir cette nouvelle adaptation !

Howards End tells the story of two couples caught in a swirling landscape of social and class divisions in turn-of-the-century England. Playground is executive producing in association with City Entertainment and KippSter Entertainment. Kenneth Lonergan is penning the adaptation, directed by Hettie Macdonald.
It focuses on Margaret Schlegel (Atwell), an intelligent, idealistic, bohemian young woman who is courted by the older Henry Wilcox (Macfadyen), a self-made conservative businessman, after his wife Ruth Wilcox (Ormond) dies unexpectedly. Meanwhile, Margaret’s passionate and capricious younger sister Helen Schlegel (Coulthard) takes up the cause of Leonard Bast (Quinn), a young bank clerk who falls on hard times at work and at home with his partner Jacky (Eleazar). In the absence of their parents, who have died, the sisters’ loving but interfering Aunt Juley (Ullman) tries to keep the young ladies and their brother Tibby (Lawther) on the straight and narrow.

C'est vrai que le trio Thompson/Bonham Carter/Hopkins va être dur à éclipser mais je trouve le nouveau casting prometteur et je regarderai avec une grande curiosité cette nouvelle adaptation.
